Emily Van Gaasbeek, Ph.D.

Dr. Emily Van Gaasbeek is a postdoctoral psychology resident who earned her doctorate in psychology from The Ohio State University. She is supervised by Brianne Henry-McAllister, Psy.D. and Lisa Masako Snow, Psy.D. Prior to earning her doctorate, Dr. Van Gaasbeek received a Master’s in Education from Harvard University. Most recently, Dr. Van Gaasbeek completed her predoctoral internship at Oregon Health & Science University, where she provided psychological assessment and therapy services for children with medical and developmental complexity. Throughout her graduate and clinical training, Dr. Van Gaasbeek has developed specialized expertise in the assessment of neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism, ADHD, and intellectual disability. Additionally, her research interests center on youth with neurodevelopmental disorders, with a particular focus on experiences of belonging among adolescents and young adults with intellectual disability. Clinically, she has provided individual and group therapy for neurodivergent children, adolescents, and young adults experiencing concerns such as anxiety, mood difficulties, tics, impulsivity, social challenges, and adaptive behavior concerns. She also has experience supporting families through parent management training focused on common behavioral concerns, including sleep difficulties, tantrums, and toileting. With much of her training rooted in academic medical centers, Dr. Van Gaasbeek is committed to providing evidence-based, family-centered care tailored to each client’s unique strengths and needs. She utilizes a cognitive behavioral approach and is passionate about creating identity-affirming, supportive therapeutic spaces where clients and families feel understood, respected, and empowered. Outside of her clinical work, Dr. Van Gaasbeek enjoys hiking, running, baking, and spending quality time with her family.
