Lydia Reed, Mental Health Intern
Lydia is a graduate student and is currently finishing her Master of Counseling degree at Western Seminary in Portland, Oregon. She is being supervised by Dr. Kara Johansen, PsyD, in individual therapy, group therapy, and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT). Her prior clinical experience includes working in a university setting with young adults experiencing school-related anxiety, navigating grief, adjusting to life transitions, managing culture shock, and engaging in value exploration. Lydia is also trained in the integration of Christian faith and mental health practice and welcomes any conversation regarding faith or religious background. Lydia has experience utilizing PCIT to strengthen the parent-child relationship and to assist in managing disruptive behaviors at home and at school. Lydia’s faith background grounds her value of supporting the family system and increasing her client’s positive relationships and sense of social connectedness. She approaches wellness from a holistic perspective—the strengthening and care of mind, body, and spirit—and uses interventions to support this approach. She draws from attachment and cognitive behavioral theory in her work with children and families. Lydia is driven by the belief that every person holds inherent dignity and worth and seeks to establish an environment where that is felt by each individual. When she isn’t working, Lydia enjoys snowboarding (falling frequently), kiteboarding (falling even more frequently), spending time with friends, and serving at her local church.
